Erin Hetherington is from from Roanoke, Virginia. and is an outside hitter and setter for Roanoke United Volleyball and Northside High School.  With the help of her coaches and through hard work, Erin recently committed to play Division I volleyball at Radford University in Virginia.

When did you first start playing sports?

I first started playing and participating in rec programs in 2005 when I was 5 years old.

What would your coaches say is your best quality?

My coaches would say that I have a great work ethic and that I am very determined.

Who are your inspirations/heroes?

One of my inspirations growing up was Kristin Carpenter. My dad coached the club she played for (Richmond Volleyball Club) and I was able to watch her play a lot when I was younger. She had a lot of successes playing at Penn State and professionally. She is now currently an assistant coach at the University of Maryland. Seeing her success was always motivation to be successful myself.

What is your proudest sports moment?

My proudest sports moment was when I broke my school’s career record for number of aces as a junior.

What are your game day superstitions/routines?

I always have to wear a headband made of pre-wrap that matches my uniform.

What was the most challenging part of the recruiting process?

The most challenging part was sending and filling out constant emails and questionnaires for different programs.

How did FieldLevel help you?

FieldLevel allowed me to make contact with coaches that were truly interested in me as a serious volleyball player. My coach was able to share my skills with college coaches to let them know I could play at the next level.

If you could give one piece of advice to high school athletes going through the recruiting process, what would it be?

Always reach out to coaches, it shows them that you are interested and increases your chances of being noticed. The recruiting process is not an easy one, but do not give up because the end result is very rewarding.
